Gardening soil for balconies, terraces and gardens
The high-quality SERAMIS® gardening soil is a ready-to-use mixture of selected, natural raw materials with high-quality, water-storing SERAMIS® plant granules made of clay. Thanks to its balanced recipe, the loose potting soil is suitable for planting and repotting balcony plants as well as for cultivating ornamental shrubs, perennials, vegetables, fruit trees and berries.
The balanced composition of SERAMIS® Gardening Soil ensures good air and water flow in the planter and thus optimal plant growth and lush flower formation. Incorporated into the bed, SERAMIS® Gardening Soil with its loose structure ensures good aeration of the soil and improved water flow. It also promotes biological activity and soil fertility.
The advantages of SERAMIS® gardening soil
- Suitable for all balcony plants, vegetables, ornamental shrubs, perennials as well as fruit trees and berries, except bog bedding plants
- The unique combination of quality-assured raw materials with SERAMIS® plant granules sustainably optimises the water and air balance as well as the nutrient distribution in the substrate
- With SERAMIS® Planting Granules, plants receive optimal growing conditions through:
- stable substrate structure
- Higher water and nutrient storage
- Very good water absorption and water distribution
- Higher air capacity
- Less compaction in the planter
- Very good rewettability in dry conditions
- Pre-fertilised for approx. 4 - 6 weeks; afterwards the plants should be further fertilised with a suitable fertiliser according to the instructions for use. Regular repotting promotes the healthy growth of the plants
Application
Preparation
Carefully pot the plant, loosen the root ball slightly, remove excess soil, remove dead root parts and dip dry pads in water. Select the new container so that it is slightly larger than the original pot or box. Cover the drainage hole in the container with gravel or pottery shards. To drain and increase the water reservoir, fill up a 2 to 6 cm thick layer of SERAMIS® plant granules. Depending on the plant species, the ideal time for repotting is spring, autumn or immediately after flowering. In the following period, it is important to ensure that the soil is kept constantly moist. To determine the ideal watering time, the Westland watering indicator can be used. Depending on the plant, the ideal time for repotting is spring, autumn or directly after flowering.
Balcony and terrace plants
The planters are prepared and filled with soil as described under Preparation. Then place the plants in the container and fill them so that the root ball is completely covered with soil and there is also a watering rim of about 1 cm.
Bedding with perennials, ornamental shrubs, fruit trees and berries
Dig a sufficiently large hole – about twice the size of the root ball. Mix the SERAMIS® gardening soil with the excavated soil in a ratio of 2:1. Loosen the soil of the planting trough sufficiently to ensure good root penetration, at least to a depth of 40 to 50 cm. On this occasion, heavy clay soils should be mixed with sand or SERAMIS® plant granules or SERAMIS® outdoor plant granules and loosened.
Place the plant deep enough in the planting hole so that the plant's soil ball can be covered with at least 2 cm of the new planting soil. Fill the prepared soil mixture into the planting hole, press down on the soil ball and water the plant vigorously.
In autumn or spring, the gardening soil can also be spread and worked in around the plant that has already been planted.
Care
After planting or repotting, water the plants with water until the soil is well moist. In the following period, make sure that the soil is kept moist.
To reliably determine the ideal watering time, the Westland watering indicator can also be used outdoors on pot and container plants.
For terrace and balcony plants, it is recommended to fertilise after two to four weeks and for perennials, ornamental shrubs, fruit trees and berries to fertilise after four weeks.
The location requirements of the respective plants in terms of light and temperature must be taken into account.

*Ensuring winter hardiness
In order to enjoy your terracotta containers for a long time, you should consider the following points:
To prevent water from accumulating, you should place the container on terracotta feet or underlay the container with wooden strips. This prevents waterlogging and thus prevents frost damage to the object, figure, pot and plant.
There must be no water in vessels, water bowls, fountains, bird baths, saucers, etc. in winter or frost.
Cover the hole at the bottom with a curved clay disc and make a drainage with expanded clay and a fleece.
In a hardware store or garden centre, you can get expanded clay with a grain size of 8 – 16 mm. Then cover the expanded clay with a generously cut piece of garden fleece up to the edge. This prevents the soil from seeping through and thus clogging the drainage hole. A nice side effect, the terrace is not soiled by the irrigation water.
With a good potted plant soil, you also ensure better aeration of the soil and an optimal combination of nutrients and water. Now your plant can help itself to water as needed.
Hint! In most cases, the insurance covers any damage, e.g. rear-end collisions, storm damage or theft.
