SERAMIS® Peat-free, light potting soil
- 100% peat-free – 100% sustainable
- Special BIO3 soil mixture
- Increases plant vitality
Light potting soil peat-free with 50% less weight
The SERAMIS® Light potting soil is approx. 50% lighter than peat-free SERAMIS® balcony/potting soil. This is particularly advantageous if the potting soil has to be carried further distances or to upper floors. At 12.5 l, the pack is an ideal size for small balconies with green and flowering plants, because the composition of SERAMIS® Light Potting Soil is perfectly tailored to the needs of green and flowering plants. It ensures a good air and water supply and thus optimal plant growth and rich flower formation.
The advantages of SERAMIS® light potting soil
- Suitable for all house, balcony and terrace plants, except bog bed plants
- The unique combination of renewable, quality-assured raw materials with SERAMIS® plant granules sustainably optimises the water and air balance as well as the nutrient distribution in the substrate.
- Significantly less weight, approx. 50% lighter than SERAMIS® balcony/potting soil
- With SERAMIS® Planting Granules, plants receive optimal growing conditions through:
- stable substrate structure
- Higher water and nutrient storage
- Very good water absorption and water distribution
- Higher air capacity
- Less compaction in the planter
- Very good rewettability in dry conditions
- Pre-fertilized for about three months; then the plants should be further fertilized with the liquid houseplant fertilizer from SERAMIS® or another flower fertilizer according to the instructions.
- Regular repotting promotes the healthy growth of the plants
Application
Planting in SERAMIS® Light Potting Soil can be done all year round. Repotting in spring is particularly recommended to give the plants enough space for the upcoming growth spurt due to increased sunlight. In autumn, it should be checked whether lush growth during the growing season requires the next pot size.
Preparation
Carefully pot the plant, loosen the root ball slightly, remove excess soil, remove dead root parts. Select the new pot so that it is about 2 centimetres larger than the original pot. Cover the drainage hole in the container with gravel or pottery shards. To drain and increase the water reservoir, fill up a 2 to 6 centimetre thick layer of SERAMIS® plant granules, depending on the size of the pot.
Repotting
To repot, fill the pot halfway with SERAMIS® Light Potting Soil, place the root ball of the plant to be potted in the middle of the pot and continue to fill evenly with SERAMIS® Light Potting Soil until the root ball is covered. Leave a watering edge of about one centimetre. Press the root ball lightly and water the plant with water until the soil is well moist. In the following period, make sure that the soil is kept moist. To reliably determine the ideal watering time, the SERAMIS® watering indicator can be used. The location requirements of the respective plants in terms of light and temperature must be taken into account.

*Ensuring winter hardiness
In order to enjoy your terracotta containers for a long time, you should consider the following points:
To prevent water from accumulating, you should place the container on terracotta feet or underlay the container with wooden strips. This prevents waterlogging and thus prevents frost damage to the object, figure, pot and plant.
There must be no water in vessels, water bowls, fountains, bird baths, saucers, etc. in winter or frost.
Cover the hole at the bottom with a curved clay disc and make a drainage with expanded clay and a fleece.
In a hardware store or garden centre, you can get expanded clay with a grain size of 8 – 16 mm. Then cover the expanded clay with a generously cut piece of garden fleece up to the edge. This prevents the soil from seeping through and thus clogging the drainage hole. A nice side effect, the terrace is not soiled by the irrigation water.
With a good potted plant soil, you also ensure better aeration of the soil and an optimal combination of nutrients and water. Now your plant can help itself to water as needed.
Hint! In most cases, the insurance covers any damage, e.g. rear-end collisions, storm damage or theft.
